SNES Junior is a redesigned and smaller version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in 1997 by Nintendo. The console had a more compact size, reduced weight and a redesigned controller, making it more comfortable for gamers to use. The console has a similar hardware configuration as the original SNES and is backwards compatible with all SNES games. It also incorporated a "Dog Bone" controller which had a more ergonomic shape than the original SNES controller.
However, despite its improved design and compatibility with an extensive game library, the SNES Junior struggled to gain a foothold in the market due to stiff competition from contemporary consoles like the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. As a result, it was ultimately discontinued in 1999, making it one of the shortest-lived consoles in Nintendo's history.
